Oh they're out there alright...and their weapon of choice is obtuseness. I was in a PR planning meeting the other day with a client. The company is huge. Like, they make money the old fashion way...they EARN it. We talk about social media with them a lot, and some of the internal folks are actually starting to move on some of the ideas. Adoption is far from there, but we've got them thinking the right way. All of a sudden it's brought to my attention that one of the divisional PR managers, whom I don't work with, had this to add to the brainstorm: "...I think blogs are a complete waste of time." I almost lept across the 57 ft long mahogany boardroom table and clotheslined her. Just the kind of statement that makes you go blind with rage.
How can, right now, today, a person in the same profession as me think that those who blog don't matter. In any capacity, period. Probably the same MarCom person at MSFT 8 years ago who said, 'pssht, yeah, Linux...whatever. Like THAT guy's ever going to gain momentum.' You know what..you go take 3 days to write a press release, and respond to a few more editorial calendars. Meanwhile, I'll advise my clients differently. I'm clearly not over this yet.
I'd comment on this, but it's a total waste of time, as was reading this.
